Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/32 inches (2.78 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per bend Crimson and Or, on the first a Korean bell and on the second an anvil counterchanged.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed ARMA PROCUDITE in Red letters.

Symbolism
Crimson and yellow are used for Ordnance, the original designation of the unit.  The bell represents the art of bell making for which Korea is noted and symbolizes the Battalions campaigns in Korea.  The anvil on which metal is shaped and repaired indicates the maintenance function of the organization.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 740th Ordnance Battalion on 9 March 1954.  It was redesignated for the 40th Armored Ordnance Battalion on 12 May 1955.  It was redesignated for the 40th Ordnance Battalion on 23 February 1961.  The insignia was redesignated for the 161st Maintenance Battalion on 30 July 1968.  It was amended to update the description and symbolism on 30 October 2003.

The coat of arms was originally approved for the 740th Ordnance Battalion on 9 March 1954.  It was redesignated for the 40th Armored Ordnance Battalion on 12 May 1955.  It was redesignated for the 40th Ordnance Battalion on 23 February 1961.  The insignia was redesignated for the 161st Maintenance Battalion with the symbolism revised effective 1 September 2003.
